    • PP has a relatively high melting point, typically around 160 – 170°C, which gives it good heat resistance compared to some other plastics. This allows products made from PP to be used in applications where they may be exposed to moderately high temperatures, such as in some kitchenware like reusable food containers that can be heated in the microwave (although it’s important to check the product’s label for microwave – safe indication).
    • It is a lightweight material, which is beneficial in applications where weight reduction is crucial, such as in automotive parts and packaging.

2. PC (Polycarbonate)

  • Chemical structure and properties
    • Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic polymer with a more complex molecular structure compared to PP. It contains carbonate groups in its backbone.
    • One of the most notable properties of PC is its high impact resistance. It is extremely tough and can withstand significant force without breaking or cracking. This makes it ideal for applications where durability under stress is essential, such as in safety goggles, motorcycle helmets, and bullet – resistant glass (when combined with other materials).
    • PC has excellent optical properties, including high transparency and low haze. It can be made into clear sheets or lenses with good light transmission, which is why it is used in applications like eyeglass lenses, CD and DVD discs, and some types of lighting fixtures.
    • It has a relatively high heat deflection temperature, usually around 130 – 140°C, which means it can maintain its shape and mechanical properties under elevated temperatures. However, it may be sensitive to certain chemicals, especially strong alkalis and some organic solvents.
